Andrew Sloan of Ochiltree enrolled in Ayrshire Yeomanry in 1904 aged 18. He was working for farmer Hugh Sloan (his father) at Carbello Crossing. He was 5 ft 5 and 3/4 and had a chest measurement of 34 inches.
